I've got some advice for all of you. If you've lived wherever you are now for more than a year or two and haven't gone out to explore your new surroundings. What are you waiting for?!?!?!?! If you happen to have a camera, then take it with you!
Since I bought my new camera a few months ago, I have been to a few places I'd never been to before and I've lived in St. Louis all my life. First was the Missouri Botanical Garden and I plan to make many more trips there.
Then today I went to the Cahokia Mounds State Historical Site (
[link]). Since I can remember I've always been fascinated by archaeology and Cahokia Mounds is one big ongoing archaeological dig. In it's prime, Cahokia had some 2000 huts and many thousands of people. The largest mound, Monks Mound, "is the largest Pre-Columbian earthwork in America north of Mesoamerica."
Monks Mound is 100 feet high, 955' long and 775' wide and according to wikipedia, that makes the mound "roughly the same size at its base as the Great Pyramid of Giza". I have some photos I took of it that I will get posted later. I had to take them from across the highway in order to get the whole mound in the shot.
I can't wait to explore more of the area I've lived in for so long and I plan to take my camera with me.
(Next week I'm going to talk about something I realized today...hopefully I'll remember what that was when the time comes.)

So the Olympic games are over after 17 days. People say that China won with all the gold medals (51), but I don't see it that way. You may say that I'm biased because I live in the USA, but I say we won. Golds are nice and China should be proud of their Athletes, but I believe the number of medals and not the colors are what matter. The US won a total of 110 medals over all and China only won 100.
So as I said the games are over and we now go back to re-runs and reality TV until the new season starts for all our favorite shows. Maybe I'll take this time to get caught up on Heroes.

And now that I've completely bored you all with my ramblings, I will present you with this weeks features.
I'm loving this, but I have to admit that I almost didn't do the feature tonight... I'm dead tired after my excursion today. But I didn't want to cheat anyone out of their feature time.
This week I bring you work from:
Sonic-Orgasm
Grodpro (a fellow St. Louisan)
Tangleduptight
Zibo29
Scarlet1800
Enjoy this weeks selections and please check back at the end of this week when, not only will there be another five weekly features... but there will also be 4 selections that will be up for a whole month. I've decided that I am going to take one piece of art from each weekly feature.
